PUNE:She is just another 30-year-old working woman. With her business-like approach,giving orders to subordinates to meet deadlines, no one would ever think she isHIVpositive.

"Wecharge the food less than the hotels. Apart from that we give free meals toabout 18 women everyday, ten of whom are inflicted with HIV," says Ruby whosedaughter is currently living inMumbai.

"Iwas only 13 when my husband dumped me here 30 years ago. But I left it all whenI decided to work for the AIDS campaign. I don't earn much but at least I havemental strength now," says 45-year-oldYashodhra.

"Wetell them how grave this disease is. We inform them about methods of preventionfrom it. We ask them to use protection for not just their clients but also theirregular partners, which they tend to avoid. We also give them lessons onpersonal hygiene," says Yashodhra, who feels "more empowered" than she everwas.
